a plush that gets carried gets dirty, and a plush nobody dares to clean eventually gets retired. washing is fine. heat is the problem.
start with spot cleaning
- mix a drop of mild detergent into cool water.
- dab with a cloth, do not scrub, scrubbing mats the pile.
- rinse the same spot with a clean damp cloth.
- press with a towel to pull the moisture out.
hand wash when it needs more
cool water, mild detergent, gentle squeezing rather than wringing. rinse until the water runs clear. wringing twists the seams and pushes the fill into a lump it will not come back from.
never the dryer
heat compresses polyester fill permanently. that is what makes a plush go flat and stay flat. air dry on a towel, away from direct sun, turning it every few hours so the inside dries too.
bring the fluff back
once fully dry, massage the fill through the fabric with your fingers and brush the pile gently with a soft brush. it looks like new again in about a minute.
