    travelling with a comfort object

    october 26, 2026 · 3 min read

travel is exactly when a comfort object earns its keep, and exactly when it is most likely to be left in a hotel room. a little planning fixes both.

size for the trip, not the shelf

a full size plush takes bag space and gets left behind at security. a bag charm clipped to the outside of your carry on is with you by default, survives being crammed under a seat, and never needs unpacking.

    give it a rule

pick one place it lives during the trip: the same pocket, the same side of the nightstand. most losses happen because the object moved around. one rule and it comes home.

    at the hotel

keep it off the bed and out of the sheets. that is where housekeeping loses things. a nightstand or the top of your open bag is safer, and it makes an unfamiliar room feel a bit like yours.

    questions people ask

can you bring a stuffed animal on a plane?

yes, in carry on or clipped to a bag. small plush and bag charms travel best because they do not need to come out of the bag at security.

what is the best travel comfort object?

a bag charm sized plush. it is attached to something you already carry, so it does not depend on you remembering it.

every but cute has a quirk, and a yet.
